NBT Bank Welcomes Mendola as Associate General Counsel

Williamsville, NY (March 25, 2026) — NBT Bank announced today that Michael R. Mendola has joined the company as Associate General Counsel. He is based at NBT’s regional headquarters in Williamsville.

In this role, Mendola will support enterprise-wide legal initiatives with a focus on technology, third party risk management, data governance and cybersecurity, while partnering with leaders across the organization to advance legal, regulatory and operational priorities. He also brings extensive experience in litigation, eDiscovery and legal operations from more than two decades in the financial services industry. Most recently, he served as Director of Litigation, eDiscovery and Data Governance at Discover Financial Services.

A strategic advisor throughout his career, Mendola has partnered closely with technology, privacy, compliance and risk teams on issues including data governance strategies, information lifecycle management, AI governance, and vendor relationships. His background includes significant experience guiding enterprise-wide policy initiatives, leading legal teams and managing external legal partners.

Mendola holds a law degree from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor’s degree from Canisius University. He is a Member of the Board of the Niagara Frontier Corporation Counsel Association and member of the West Seneca Lions.
