HOW WE PROTECT YOU
Threats to your personal information are always evolving. That’s why NBT Bank is constantly enhancing the security measures and controls we have in place to protect you. Click the headings below for specifics on how we keep your information safe—and be sure to check out how you can protect yourself as well.
When you enroll in NBT Online Banker, you will be provided with a unique login ID. In order to keep a unique user name, you can update your login ID under the "Preferences" tab when you select Change Login ID. To help protect yourself, ensure that your NBT Bank login ID and password differ from those you use for other online accounts or activities. Change your passwords frequently, and make sure they are unique and not easily guessable.
Please remember that NBT Bank may request that you provide your NBT Online Banker login ID to verify your identity; but our customer service representatives will never ask you to provide your password.
NBT Online Banker will automatically log you off from your online or mobile banking session after a period of inactivity. This will reduce the risk of others accessing your information from your unattended computer or mobile device. For your added security, always log off manually when leaving your device unattended. Please see our Online & Mobile Security section for more tips on how to protect online and mobile sessions.
NBT Bank is continuously enhancing our authentication tools to help protect against unauthorized account access. We offer One-Time PIN as an additional layer of security that safeguards certain transactions and sensitive information. Asking you to input a code that NBT Bank will send to your device helps us verify your identity.
From the moment account information leaves your computer to the time it enters NBT Bank’s system, all online and mobile banking sessions are encrypted. We employ strong encryption software to help protect your accounts. NBT Bank will only support browsers that adhere to our high encryption standards.
Always look at the address bar of websites that you visit to determine if the site is secure. The presence of a “closed lock” icon in your browser indicates encryption is being used on the webpage you are viewing. In addition, and internet address that begins with "https://..." indicates the page you are viewing uses encryption. The "s" stands for "secured."
NBT Bank employs a layered approach to online and mobile security. Monitoring will extend beyond a unique username and password, enhanced authentication, encryption and browser requirements. We have additional security measures that may be activated in response to certain activities or events through our ongoing monitoring efforts. If your online behavior looks out of the ordinary from your usual activities, we may restrict online account access or prevent certain types of transactions.
If your NBT Bank Debit Card transactions appear out of the ordinary or out of your normal geographic location, transactions could be restricted to help protect your account from unauthorized charges. If you are traveling domestically or internationally please be sure to notify NBT Bank of your travel plans.
These measures help safeguard your personal and account information. Further verification could be required in order for the transaction to be processed.
In addition, under federal law, Regulation E (Electronic Fund Transfer Act) provides certain protections to customers when there is unauthorized account activity. Regulation E covers electronic fund transfer activity through a checking, savings, or other consumer asset account at a financial institution used primarily for personal, family, or household purposes. Should you notice unauthorized account activity please contact NBT Customer Service or your local NBT Bank office to dispute those charges.
