How We Protect Your Business

Threats to your business and its information are constantly changing. That's why NBT Bank is constantly enhancing the security measures and controls we have in place to protect it. Click the headings below for more info on how we keep your information safe-and be sure to check out how you can Protect Your Business as well.

When you enroll in NBT Online Banker for Business, your business will be provided with a unique login ID. In order to keep a unique user name, you can update your login ID under the "Preferences" tab when you select Change User ID. To help protect yourself, ensure that your NBT Bank login ID and password differ from those you use for other online accounts or activities. Change your passwords frequently and make sure they are unique and not easily guessable.

Please remember that NBT Bank may request your business's NBT Online Banker username to authenticate you by phone; however, customer service representatives will never request a password to verify your identity.

NBT Bank is continuously enhancing our authentication tools to help protect against unauthorized account access. We offer One-Time PIN as an additional layer of security that safeguards certain transactions and sensitive information. It will ask you to input a code that NBT Bank will send to your device that helps us verify your identity.

NBT Online Banker for Business will automatically log you off from your online or mobile banking session after a period of inactivity. This will reduce the risk of others accessing your information from your unattended computer or mobile device. For your added security, always log off manually when leaving your device unattended. Please see our Online & Mobile section for more tips on how to protect online and mobile sessions.

From the moment account information leaves one of your business computers to the time it enters NBT Bank's system, all online and mobile banking sessions are encrypted. We employ strong encryption software to help protect your business' accounts. NBT Bank will only support browsers that adhere to our high encryption standards.

Always look at the address bar of websites that you visit to determine if the site is secure. The presence of a "closed lock" icon in your browser indicates encryption is being used on the webpage you are viewing. In addition, and internet address that begins with "https://..." indicates the page you are viewing uses encryption. The "s" stands for "secured."

NBT Bank employs a layered approach to online and mobile security for businesses. Monitoring will extend beyond a unique login ID and password, enhanced authentication, encryption and browser requirements. NBT Bank has additional security measures that may be activated in response to certain activities or events through our ongoing monitoring efforts. If your online behavior looks out of the ordinary from your business' usual activities, we may restrict online account access or prevent certain types of transactions.

If your business' NBT Debit Card transactions appear out of the ordinary or out of your normal geographic location, transactions could be restricted to help protect your account from unauthorized charges. If you are traveling, please be sure to notify NBT Bank of your travel plans using the Debit Card Travel Notification Form.

These measures help safeguard your personal and account information. Further verification could be required in order for the transaction to be processed.

Should you notice unauthorized account activity, please contact our Call Center at 800.628.2265 or your local NBT Bank office to dispute those charges.

Positive Pay is a fraud-detection service that protects customers from illegal duplication of documents. It also reduces the time needed to resolve issues when a fraud is perpetrated. The customer provides issuance information-date, amount and check number-every time a check is written. Then, as checks come in to be paid, they are compared with this issuance file before they are charged against the account. If any check does not match the issuance file, a reject report is created and faxed to the customer, who must make the decision whether to pay or return the item.

This Internet banking service is the cornerstone cash management product for many of our business customers, particularly those who have the need for Automated Clearing House (ACH) origination for direct deposits. NBT Online Banker for Business is a web-based service that allows you to connect with your NBT Bank accounts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our various service suites allow you to tailor your NBT Online Banker service to the specific needs of your business.
